The European Solidarity Residency (ESR) is a small-scale intarnational cooperative project designed to empower emerging cultural professionals (CPs), especially those from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds. Built on the idea that solidarity through art can drive positive social change, ESR promotes diversity, environmental awareness, equality, and inclusion across Europe’s cultural and creative sectors.
The project unfolds in three key phases:
1. Knowledge exchange among partner institutions to share inclusive artistic practices and approaches;
2. Fully funded international residencies for selected CPs at each partner organisation;
3. Dissemination of outcomes, showcasing innovative and inclusive methods that respond to societal challenges through art.
ESR values the cultural diversity of its partner organisations and harnesses this richness to develop context-sensitive strategies for social inclusion. By offering co-working space access, research opportunities, mentoring, and a family- and disability-friendly environment, the residencies are designed to be accessible and supportive.
Participants are selected through an open, merit-based call that prioritises fairness, diversity, and gender balance. The residencies include accommodation, daily allowances, and tailored mentoring to help participants deepen their practice and strengthen their role in the sector.
Through enhanced articulation, collaboration, and leadership skills, ESR supports the next generation of cultural changemakers. The project promotes cross-border cooperation and environmentally responsible artistic practices, contributing to a more inclusive and resilient European creative ecosystem.
