Livin’ the City – (E)merging Parallel Realities

Livin’ the City is an international collaboration that sprung from a handful of projects aiming to bring art to our public spaces, and accordingly, to create real community spaces in the city. These projects cover multidisciplinary creations and interactive games ranging from one-to-one performances to pieces and concerts addressing a wider audience. Our goal is to bring locals closer to each other and to their living spaces and to create a communal ubiety and attentiveness that is rarely present in today’s accelerated societies.

Livin’ the City draws inspiration from our former interactive, participatory projects, Szabihíd and Futószínház. These events have challenged the local audience and provided them with the opportunity of experimenting with a yet unknown genre for the most part. The interest they attested affirmed that there is a demand for such initiatives in big cities. The colourful programmes of Szabihíd, featuring various genres, and the unusual theatre experience of Futószínház, linking art and sports, served as a sample for our future project. Livin’ the City aims to reinvent public spaces by reinterpreting their functions and revealing their potentials with the help of an emerging genre in Hungary and in the neighbouring countries.

Livin’ the City – supported by Creative Europe – brings together the initiators of Europe’s socially committed and innovative arts programs. With the involvement of the locals, we would like to develop a new approach to build our environment through interactive participatory artwork and play. We aim to reinvent public spaces by reinterpreting their functions and revealing their potentials with the help of art.
