RE-MARK – Art and Culture Revitalizing Rural Farmers’ Markets and Communities

Transforming rural markets into creative spaces for culture, community and local economies across Europe.

Project Logo

RE-MARK is a European cooperation project exploring how art and culture can revitalise rural farmers’ markets and strengthen local communities. Across four European territories, the project transforms traditional markets into Rural Creative Markets — vibrant spaces where local production, artistic creation and community life come together.

Through artistic residencies, participatory processes and cultural events, RE-MARK brings together artists, farmers, citizens and local institutions to imagine new futures for rural public spaces. By combining culture, creativity and local economies, the project aims to foster social inclusion, strengthen community identity and support sustainable rural development across Europe.

RE-MARK is implemented across four rural territories:

  • Bertinoro (Italy)
  • San Cebrián de Castro / Zamora (Spain)
  • Komló (Hungary)
  • Lazhnitsa (Bulgaria)

RE-MARK activities:

  • Co-planning with local communities

  • Artistic residencies

  • Cultural interventions

  • Events and market festivals

  • European exchange and collaboration

Launch of New European Project “RE-MARK”: Art and Culture revitalizing rural farmers’ markets and communities.

Budapest, 16 Avril, 2026 – The official launch of the European project RE-MARK will take place in Bertinoro (IT) on 16th - 17th April 2026, marking the beginning of an ambitious initiative aimed at triggering systemic change in how culture is produced, accessed and sustained in rural territories across Europe. In contexts marked by demographic decline, social fragmentation and cultural underinvestment, the project proposes a radically new use of a familiar infrastructure: the rural market. By transforming rural farmers' markets into Rural Creative Markets intended as hybrid spaces that combine artistic creation, local economies, community engagement and cultural storytelling, RE-MARK introduces a replicable, place-based model for culture-driven rural regeneration.
