Demart Panel Discussion

Democratic Curation at Valley of Arts Festival 2024

Last week, our colleague Panka Paskuj led an inspiring panel discussion on “Democratic Curation” at the Valley of Arts Festival 2024, an event that brought together artists and project managers to explore new approaches to art curation.

We had a chance to hear the participants of the Demart project from our social pillar, led by Fundacja Art Transparent – Małgorzata Miśniakiewicz, a curator and artistic advisor, alongside Dr. László Váczi, artist advisor and CEO of Bethlen Square Theater, offered valuable perspectives on the intersection of art, community, and curation. Anna Némethné Molnár, the project manager for DemArt, emphasized the role of community in shaping artistic narratives.

The panel sparked engaging discussions with attendees, underlining the importance of collaborative, community-driven approaches in the art world. DemArt, driven by partners from Hungary, Poland, and Latvia, continues to challenge traditional models, paving the way for more inclusive and participatory curation practices.

DemArt, which is run by the International Institute of Community Commissioned Art (IICCA), set up by Bethlen Téri Színház (HU), Fundacja Art Transparent (PL) and the Latvijas Jaunā teātra institūts (LV).
